The Misano Adriatico beach, like the entire coast of Romagna, suffers the eroding effect of the sea. Hence, panels and reefs have been built over the years to defend the coastline. However, these works can trigger transformations in the adjacent beaches. Indeed, the Portoverde beach was considerably compromised by the construction of protective works in front of the Cattolica beach. In barely a few years, the artificially diverted currents eroded the Portoverde shoreline by more than 50 metres.
The Misano Adriatico Municipality promotes various activities to disseminate and raise awareness on the theme of the sea, including the initiative Il Mare di Notte - exploring the Adriatic Sea by night (click here), organised in partnership with the Cetacea Foundation of Riccione.

Blue, green and yellow flag!
In 1989, Misano Adriatico received the Blue Flag for the first time. The award is given by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to European coastal locations that meet quality criteria for bathing water and services.
Misano Adriatico also received the Green Flag from Italian paediatricians for family-friendly tourism, and the Yellow Flag, a national award of the FIAB (Italian Federation for the Environment and Cycling). The latter acknowledges the effort of local administrations that are most attentive to bicycle mobility policies.
